Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Ami Speak is a free beta app for learning English: you save words, read articles and practise speaking with Ami, an AI coach. This policy explains what data we collect, why, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and specific to what the app actually does.
1. Who we are
Ami Speak (amispeak.com) is run by Dmytro Bolotin, a private individual based in Lithuania, who is the controller of your personal data. For anything about your data, write to hello@amispeak.com.
2. What we collect
- Account details. You sign in with Google. We receive your name, email address, profile picture and Google account identifier. We never see your Google password.
- What you create in the app. Your words, translations, examples and lists; your learning progress, practice results and records; articles you add to Reading and their translations; the text of your Voice conversations, the mistakes found in them and your progress; the XP you earn; feedback you send; links you create to share a list.
- Voice recordings. When you speak in Voice, the recording is sent to an AI provider to turn it into text. We keep the text, not the audio.
- Profile and settings. Your username and avatar, your native language, appearance and similar preferences.
- Usage and technical data. How many AI requests you make (to apply fair-use limits), anonymous page-view and performance statistics, and standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) kept by our hosting providers for security and debugging.
3. How we use it
- To run the app: store your vocabulary, sync it across your devices, and power the AI features you use.
- To keep the service fair and safe: usage limits, abuse prevention and fixing errors.
- To improve the app, using aggregated statistics and the feedback you choose to send.
- To reply when you contact us.
We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your content to train our own AI models.
Legal bases under the GDPR: performance of our agreement with you (providing the app), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, improving the app), and your consent where it is required.
4. AI features
When you use an AI feature — adding a word with ✨, Ask Ami, Reading translations and lookups, Voice, grammar lessons — the text or audio needed for that request is sent to an AI provider, and the answer comes back to you. We use models from Google (Gemini), OpenAI and Anthropic (Claude), routed through Vercel AI Gateway; which one answers depends on the feature, and another takes over if one is unavailable. These providers process the data to answer the request under their API terms.
AI answers can be wrong. Please don't share sensitive personal information (health, finances, passwords) in conversations or texts you send to Ami.
Dictionary entries for common words (meanings, translations, examples) are kept in a shared cache so the next learner gets them instantly. That cache stores only the word, the language and the generated entry — never who asked for it, and never your own edits. Pronunciation is generated once per word or phrase and stored the same way, without who asked for it.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account in the app, its data is erased immediately; if you ask us by email instead, we delete it within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something longer. Records of your AI requests (what kind of request and when — not what you wrote) are kept to apply limits and watch costs, and are deleted with your account.
7. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, to restrict or object to how we process it, and to withdraw any consent you gave. Write to hello@amispeak.com — we answer within one month.
You can do the two most common ones yourself in Settings: download a copy of your vocabulary (Backup), and delete your account — which permanently erases everything it holds at once. You can also email us from the address you sign in with.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority — in Lithuania, the State Data Protection Inspectorate (vdai.lrv.lt), or the authority where you live.
9. Age
Ami Speak is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from younger children; if you believe a child under 16 has an account, write to hello@amispeak.com and we'll delete it.
10. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, each account can only reach its own data, and secret keys stay on our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you.
11. Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll change the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. See also our Terms of Service.
